School of Electronic music and of Composition with new technologies
The schoold was established in 1972 on the initiative of Wolfgango Dalla Vecchia and entrusted to Giuseppe Sinopoli, to whom succeeded in 1975 one of the pioneers of electronic music in Italy, Alvise Vidolin. The goal was to combine electroacoustic music and information technologies together with instrumental compositional practices, which endures in the title of the programs in effect, though they are now structured in a totally different way.
The school offer consists of two undergraduate and graduate programs. The common goal is the transfer of knowledge which can be useful to realize one's own artistic idea, specific within the undegraduate course and advanced within the graduate. Reached competences are sufficiently wide both for the academic vocation and the artistic profession; the skills developed along the undegraduate and graduate courses are appropriate to the european standards and allow to interact within international world of work's systems and accessing doctoral education.
A strong foundation in informatics and musical listening is required for the course in Electronic music, and a strong foundation in instrumental writing for that in Composition with new technologies. Both programs include the study of techniques, styles, languages, and aesthetics representative of different time periods but in particular of the 20th and 21st century. The perspective is both the artistic-musical and the analytical/historic-musicological. History of technologies is approached in a critical way.
Each program includes improvisation practice and the performance of one's own works, along contemporary works and repertoire (both instrumental with electronics and electroacoustic). The programs envision design capabilities concerning artistic installations, interactive systems applied to the artwork, and multimedia. As a consequence, students are steadily involved in laboratorial activities and artistic productions which are carried on both internally and outside the institute, some of which are of international relevance. Erasmus programs and post graduate internships integrate the offer.
